Community Involvement

Catherine McMullen is a voter-focused elections administrator, a lifelong public servant, a proud union member, a champion for voting rights, a community leader. She has been in public service for over 17 years, and she has conducted elections since 2015. She started, developed, and fought for the award-winning Voter Education and Outreach Program in 2015, the only local government program of its kind in Oregon.

Catherine also understands the importance of community involvement and community volunteers. Coming together to volunteer and do work that benefits the whole community is important to her. You can read about some of her community activities below.

Catherine Helps Voters Register at the Community Services Fair

Catherine worked to get voters registered on April 30th at the Community Services Fair in Milwaukie. The Services Fair was a free community event hosted by Breakside Brewery and the Community Services Network. This event served community residents by providing access to a variety of free resources. The Clackamas Voice booth provided voting-related information to Fair participants. Catherine and other volunteers assisted citizens with voter registration and aided individuals in locating ballot dropboxes in their local neighborhoods. Catherine also helped numerous people by answering their questions on voting in Oregon.

Catherine Works for Voter Access and Engagement

The Catherine for Clerk team kicked off our Voter Access and Engagement effort knocking on more than 100 doors in Oregon City! We talked to non-affiliated and minor party voters about Oregon’s closed party primary. We talked to voters in the Oregon City View Manor public housing, met so many cute dogs, and to voters at the Edgewater at the Cove Apartments and throughout downtown OC. The deadline to choose a party is April 26! Do that by updating your voter registration.

Plant a 1,000 Trees

Catherine worked as a community volunteer on Saturday February 18th, along with 20 other community members, to plant trees in the Wilsonville Memorial Park as part of their Plant 1,000 Trees Initiative. In her words:

“I’m here at the Wilsonville Memorial Park with 20 other volunteers for Wilsonville, Parks and Rec. We’re planting 1,000 trees to help replace the tree coverage that we lost as a community during the ice storms in February 2021. To me, planting trees is a rewarding community activity, and I enjoy spending time outside at one of my family’s favorite parks.”

Refugee Aid Kits

February 5th Collection Kickoff

Catherine and volunteers from The West Linn Alliance successfully held the group’s first collection day for the Refugee Aid Kits. Parkrose Hardware generously let the group set up their collection table in front of the store.

This local community work for a global challenge is being done in conjunction with the Refugee Care Collective to provide aid for refugees coming to Portland in 2022. The Portland area is expecting over 900 Afghan refugees this year.
